Ioannis Kakadiaris, Ph.D. serves as a professor in the Department of Health Systems & Population Health Sciences at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. Kakadiaris contributes to the Physicians, Patients, and Populations course, conducts collaborative research around health informatics and artificial intelligence with faculty, and mentors student scholarly projects.

Kakadiaris is the founder and director of the computational biomedicine lab at the University of Houston. He is also a Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished Professor of Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Physics.

In addition, Kakadiaris is the co-founder of the Pumps and Pipes initiative, which examines cross-domain innovation in medicine, the oil industry, and aerospace. His research interests include digital health, artificial intelligence/machine learning, biometrics, and computer vision.

He has won the UH Computer Science Research Excellence Award twice and the UH Enron Teaching Excellence Award. Kakadiaris was also awarded the NSF Early Development Award and the Schlumberger Technical Foundation Award.

Kakadiaris received his doctorate and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his master’s degree in computer science from Northeastern University and his bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Athens in Greece.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
